Botanical Gardens - Glass Sculptures Ed.

My Botanical Garden Pass came today and I jumped for joy…literally!  There was a squeal of delight and little hopping in the foyer going on!  This may seem like a silly thing to get excited about, but being the daughter of gardener and absolutely loving the outdoors, this little gem opens a world of beautiful flowers and foliage, 12 miles of trails to walk, run and bike, tons of photography opportunities, fitness classes, a place to bring people when the visit, pure enjoyment of nature.  Ahh!  I am so happy!!

This past weekend Hannah, Heather, little C-man and I all went to the gardens to walk and talk.  Spur of the moment decisions like this are going to make this pass all the sweeter. I love girl time, especially fresh air girl time.

The weekend prior, Hannah, Willie and I all went to the gardens to see their glass sculpture exhibit.  There were 30 sculptures in total and we are proud to say that we found all 30!  I won’t show you all of them, but you’ll get the idea of them from my favorites!  I went a little clicker happy while I was there.  There’s something about taking photos of flowers that just calls my name.  The natural light, the bright colors, the pure natural beauty…I adore it!

WARNING: Prepare to be bombarded with flower photography!

Orchids.  One of my favorites!

I have no idea what flower this is, but it was so cool.  It looked wax.

If I were a millionaire, I'd buy these for my dad!  They are sweet!

I really wanted these as my wedding centerpieces, but I couldn't find them anywhere.  I was thinking woodsy themed with pussy willows, some sticks and candles...It was a February wedding and would have looked pretty :)

mPix Product Review

I rarely do product reviews or website reviews because…well because for me they are boring to write and I don’t write to be bored.  I write to capture memories and be creative.  This is an exception because it is through this site that my photography comes to life in my house.  mPix is a picture printing site that I read about in Scott Kelby’s photography books and I am in LOVE with the products!  The online site is wonderful to use and they even have a sweet little app so I can order all my little instagram pics right from my phone!  Heck Yea!  That makes me super happy!

I ordered a paper sampler so that I can physically see what papers I am ordering and to know the quality that will be delivered.  It’s a simple little book that reminds me of a paint deck, but much smaller.  Paint decks have a special place in my heart because my father is a painting contractor.  It’s the little reminders in life that make it extra sweet.

I’ve received a few orders and have been thrilled with every single one!  The instagram prints are wonderful!  They are good quality for being taken with my iPhone 4 and they are cute for making coasters or sending to family members!  The true 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 prints are phenomenal!  The colors are perfect, the clarity is wonderful!  I am so happy!  The guessing game is over.  I now order my pictures with confidence and receive the product I expect.  I’m a happy camper!

There are always promo codes, so I highly recommend getting on their email list regardless of your photography skills.  If you ever get pictures printed, give mPix a try.

Follow me on instagram @xsarexbearx

If you are a photographer, are there any printing sites that you recommend?

*I have only gotten prints from mPix, so I do not know if their other products are of such high quality.

Much love.

Rainy Day Blues

Rainy days make me want to curl up in a pile of blankets with a good, candles flickering and hot tea steaming. Today is one of those days.  It’s dreary here and while some may complain about rainy days, I enjoy them now and then.  They speak to me. Sometimes I need an excuse to stay in and not do much of anything “productive” and rainy days off that guilt-free excuse for me.  Rainy days also let me mood reflect them.  It’s ok to be dreary.  It’s good for the soul to reflect and really appreciate life for the good and bad and the lessons held within each.  Today I am missing my little man.  He was such a homebody and loved a good day of movies, cuddles, naps, a little baking and PJs.  Today is a day for that.  Instead I am headed to work and Lira puppy is looking at me like I am abandoning her.  The saying “puppy eyes” was made for her.  Holy guilt trip Batman.

J-man has been with his mom for almost two weeks now and there is still a huge hole in my heart.  I can’t go in his room without getting sad.  Finding little socks that need washing and folding doesn’t help with my missing him either.  He’s doing ok, adjusting to a new environment and routine.  Changes like these take time, but my heavens, I pray my heart out that he is happy.  He is very aware of other’s feelings and knows how to cater to them.  I make him promise that he will always be honest with me and remind him constantly that his parents and I are adults and want the best for him always.  We can handle anything; it’s our job.

Since I’m in a reminiscing mood, here are some pictures that I took of Ryan and Jared on our last day together.  Since they are both golf lovers, I figured a five minute golf themed photo shoot was the way to go!

Looking up to his dad.

Beach Style Senior Potraits

Over the weekend, I had the honor of photographing a beautiful young lady for her high school senior photos. She loves the beach and really wanted to have senior portraits that would stand out from her friends. Luckily her sister lives at the beach and we just happen to be friends. Since I rarely take photos of anyone aside from friends, I was a little more nervous about this session. We originally planned on doing an early evening session on the beach, but Mother Nature was making us doubt the possibility of an evening session, so we moved it up and risked the high sun and intense shadows. Luckily, there were some overcast moments that muted the shadows.
Here is a sampling of photos from the session. She “LOVES THEM!” which makes me extremely happy! I take pictures because I think each and every one of us is beautiful in our own unique way and when you feel beautiful, it’s an amazing feeling!

I am feeling much more confident in my photographing and editing skills, but I'd love your feedback.

Much love.

The Little Things...

The dirty socks
The foam darts
The giggles behind closed doors
The high pitched singing of pop songs
The begging for sleepovers
The “I didn’t do it” look
The energy
The running through the house
The “grand ideas”

I miss the little things, along with the big things, but it’s the little things that catch me off guard.  Yesterday was J-man’s first full day with his mom and our first full day without him in our home.  It was rough.  Work kept my mind busy for most of the day, but I still had a breakdown in the morning when he wasn’t sitting on the couch in his boxers with a blanket over him watching Saved By The Bell reruns.  He always woke up and hung out in the living room before I made it out.  I’m slow in the morning and I liked seeing his little half awake self hanging out on the couch.  He’s a homebody and he really enjoys his times.  Early mornings were his alone time and he took full advantage of them!

I broke down again at lunch when I talked to my mama about him.  The good-bye was hell on all three of us.  Just imagine convulsing tears.  I was a sobbing mess then and I could be a sobbing mess at any moment.  I love that little guy like my own.  People may question that love, but if you could be God for a moment and know the love I feel for him, all doubt would disappear.  I am so very lucky to have such a sweet boy in my life.  I’m counting the weeks until I see him next…it’s approximately 12 in case you were wondering. Who knows?  Maybe it will be sooner.  I’m the constant optimist regardless of how broken my heart is.

As I pulled into the driveway, I could imagine J-man running out the door and saying “Hi Sarah!  How was work?” and then turning around and saying “Lir Lir, Mama’s home!”  in a really high pitched voice!  Sadly, that wasn’t my greeting yesterday.  Instead I had rain, a sad husband and an itchy puppy.  We ate leftovers because we didn’t have the energy to cook for two and most of the lights remained off.  It was depressing.  And when dinner was done, we had to clear our own plates.  It was J-man’s job to clear the table and he did it every single night without complaint.  It was sweet to have him take the plate from in front of me and put them in the kitchen.  We were a functioning family unit and now we are just a couple again.  It’s an adjustment.  The energy was gone from the house.

After dinner, I walked into the living room and pulled two dirty little boy socks from the couch…and cried. I’m going to miss finding little socks in really odd places.  I folded some blankets and thought of all the cuddles that were shared under them and all the tickle fights that I dominated!  The fact that the blankets stayed folded for the rest of the night was horrible.  I normally fold blankets at least twice if not three or four times a night.  I need nerf bullets and rubber bands flying around, golf balls being putted and chipped, kids running in the house and forgetting to wipe their feet, little voices giggling behind bedroom doors, complaints about going to bed, little voices asking for dessert.

He skyped his daddy and me five times yesterday.  We saw his new bedroom, the yard he will play in and the house in general.  It’s nice to be able to see his face, but I really just want to be able to tousle his hair and make him giggle. We know he misses us dearly and he knows we miss him, but he also knows that we want the best for him and his honesty about how he feels is of utmost importance to us.  I just hope that he is happy.

Much love.

Oh Running...and a Neat Little Book

Oh Running.
I am not a runner by nature.
I am just working towards a goal,
A silly, very silly, New Year’s resolution actually.
At times I feel as if I could run for days,
And at other times I feel like my body is rejecting my stomach.
The latter is a horrible feeling,
Absolutely horrible.
Yesterday, I had an amazing run!
I needed it because I was starting to get extremely discouraged.
Stomach issues while running are not enjoyable.
Thank heavens giving up dairy and popping two Tums before running seems to help.

This is me feeling like death after a run.

This is me feeling like I could conquer the world after a run.

Oh and this little 75-cents of perfection arrived in the mail yesterday!
Perfect timing in my mind!
A little book that took 20 years to compile has quite the collection!
It's one of those books that you pick up and randomly open to a page.
I love it!
It will definitely reside on my coffee table to eternity.
I look forward to friends making notes in it!

Much love.
